Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
ReadSmart ("we," "our," or "us"), accessible at https://www.readsmart.pro/, is a bilingual English-learning application for iOS and Android, intended for users aged 13 and older. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the App. By using ReadSmart, you agree to the practices described herein.
2. Information We Collect & Permissions
ReadSmart does not require account creation, login, or any personal information to use.
Device Permissions
- Microphone: Used solely for the speaking practice feature to record and compare your pronunciation with native audio. Voice recordings are processed entirely on your device and are not uploaded to our servers or shared with any third party.
- Local storage: The App stores lessons and audio files locally for offline learning. No special storage permission is required on most devices.
Automatically Collected Data
- Pseudonymous identifiers (e.g., app instance ID) for analytics and crash reporting. These identifiers do not directly reveal your identity but may be considered personal data in some jurisdictions.
- Basic device and app information (app version, OS version, device model, locale) for compatibility and diagnostics.
- Anonymous, aggregated usage analytics for product improvement.
Voluntarily Provided
- Language and proficiency level preferences for content personalization.
- Feedback messages, optional screenshots, and optional email address submitted through the in-app feedback feature.
What We Do NOT Collect
Real names, email addresses (unless voluntarily provided in feedback), passwords, precise location data (GPS), contacts, photos, files, browsing history, or biometric data. We do not use IDFA for cross-app tracking or personalized ads. Our ad partners may process limited identifiers and device signals for ad delivery, measurement, and fraud prevention under their own policies.
3. Advertising
ReadSmart displays third-party advertisements to free users only. Ads are served through Google AdMob and may include additional third-party ad networks in the future.
We serve non-personalized ads only. We do not use IDFA for cross-app tracking, and we do not track you across other apps or websites. Some features are accessible by voluntarily watching an advertisement.
Premium and trial users do not see advertisements.
Ad networks may process limited device signals (such as device type and approximate location inferred from IP address) to serve and measure ads, in accordance with their own privacy policies. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers. You can control ad-related privacy settings on your device (iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking; Android: Settings → Google → Ads).
For users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland, we obtain consent for ad-related device identifiers and measurement using a consent management platform compliant with Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), in accordance with GDPR and applicable local regulations. If you do not consent, we will show ads only where permitted and will limit the use of ad-related identifiers and measurement as required by law.
4. Payments
All purchases are processed entirely through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not collect, process, or store any payment or financial information. Payment methods and billing are managed by the respective platform.
5. How We Use Your Information
- Providing and personalizing the learning experience.
- Improving the App through anonymous analytics.
- Recording crash reports for diagnostics (opt-in only; see below).
- Responding to feedback you submit.
- Serving non-personalized advertisements to free users.
- Generating audio from app-provided lesson content via third-party text-to-speech services. Only ReadSmart's own educational text is sent to these providers — no user-generated content or personal information is included.
6. Crash Reporting
ReadSmart uses Firebase Crashlytics for crash diagnostics. Crash reporting is disabled by default. You may enable or disable it at any time in Settings. When enabled, Crashlytics collects crash logs, device state information, and the app's pseudonymous instance identifier. No personally identifiable information is included. Crash data is retained for 90 days by Firebase.
7. Data Storage & Security
Your learning data (progress, flashcards, bookmarks, preferences) is stored locally on your device. ReadSmart is offline-first — your data does not leave your device unless you choose to export a backup or the App communicates with third-party services as described in this policy (analytics, crash reports, ads, audio generation).
Content is encrypted at rest using industry-standard encryption. Audio files include privacy-preserving watermarks containing no personally identifiable information.
Backup files you export are unencrypted ZIP archives containing only learning data (progress, flashcards, bookmarks, settings). They do not contain encryption keys, payment data, or device-bound data. The security of backup files depends on your chosen storage service (Google Drive, iCloud, etc.).

9. Children's Privacy
ReadSmart is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through the feedback feature, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Your Rights & Choices
Your learning data is stored locally, giving you full control. You can view, export (via Backup), or delete all data (via Clear All Data or by uninstalling). Crash reporting is disabled by default and can be toggled at any time in Settings.
